The Forgotten Women of Bengal Renaissance

We celebrate the men – Tagore, Vivekananda, Roy. But behind them were extraordinary women whose names we barely remember.

Kadambini Ganguly, the first female doctor in South Asia. Begum Rokeya, who fought for women’s education when society said it was dangerous. Sarojini Naidu, the nightingale of India, who turned poetry into revolution.

These women didn’t just support the Renaissance – they were its heartbeat.

History has a way of forgetting the women who made the men famous. But without them, Bengal’s golden age would have been half as bright.

It’s time we remember their names and tell their stories. Because every time we forget a woman’s contribution, we lose a piece of our own strength.
