Rabindranath Tagore once dreamed of a Bengal that would lead the world not with swords, but with ideas, art, and humanity. He wrote about a place where “the mind is without fear” and knowledge flows freely.
Look around today. How much of that dream still lives?
We remember him as a poet, but he was also a fierce critic of narrow nationalism. He wanted Bengal to be a bridge between East and West, tradition and modernity, heart and reason.
Sometimes I wonder – if Tagore walked the streets of Kolkata today, what would he say? Would he still see that fire in our eyes, or just the smoke of forgotten ideals?
His dream wasn’t just beautiful words. It was a challenge. One we’re still trying to answer, almost a century later.
